Here are some photos of the Bando Kungfu Kids competing in various events (front kicks, half squat, jumping, pushups, sit-ups, and tiger crawl were just a few things they competed in.

Driving Front-Kicks These young Bando students show good form and power with their front kicks.	More Front Kicks Some of these young ladies give new meaning to the phrase "fight like a girl". I don't want them hitting me....	Half Squats Here the kids had to exhibit great strength and discipline. Holding this position for any period of time isn't as easy as you might think.	Is that the next Michael Jordan? It takes timing and coordination to jump over the rope. It's also good for agility.
Wow, he got some hang time on that one. If the Martial Arts thing doesn't work out, maybe basketball will be a good backup plan.	Pushups with good form Good form on the pushups is important, especially if they don't count when the form is bad.	Another Good Pushup Back is in line, great form!	Instructor Dawn Keeney counts pushups. Girly pushups? Grown men could take a lesson from these girls!
Situp competition. Master David Keeney helps a student with her situps.	The tiger crawl race provided some excitement. The youngest competitors clawed thier way to the finish line in this fun competitor.	The Kids & instructor Dawn Keeney, with medals. GHB will be hosting the 2007 Bando Nationals. More information will be made available. This tournament is held annually to honor America's Veterans. We are pleased to be able to honor those that have given us so much. Thank you!

HONORING VETERANS, MARTIAL ARTS TOURNAMENT IN PHILADELPHIA

Freedom is a great privilege. As United States Citizens we have this privilege due to very special people in our society: Veterans. Veterans are men and women whom most of us have never met, that have served in the armed forces and in many cases, died while protecting our gift of freedom. They are also men and women who have returned from combat with both visible injuries and substantial emotional scars. Veterans have secured our freedom for us. We should honor this freedom and never, take it for granted. We should honor these brave Americans for their great sacrifices, for their dedication, and for their loyalty to our country. We owe them nothing less than that, for our privilege of freedom.

Greater Hartford Bando is a non-profit martial arts organization that honors veterans from World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, The Gulf War and those currently fighting in the Middle East. The American Bando Association hosts national tournaments every Memorial Day and Veteran's Day with special ceremonies honoring veterans.

This Memorial Day tournament took place in Philadelphia, PA and the competitors this year from Greater Hartford Bando are pictured here. Cinda Lautenschlager won a gold medal in white belt, women's sparring; Steve Pizzoferato; Edson Quiterio who won 2nd place in black belt men's sparring; Dawn Odone Keeney who won first place in black belt edged weapons and 3rd place in line form competition; Chief Instructor, David Keeney who performed in the Master Demonstrations; Stanton Lipson who won 3rd place in brown belt stick weapons; and Mark Person who won 1st place in black belt men's sparring and also participated in the breaking division by breaking 2 x 4's with a shin kick and other boards with a single knuckle shot.

Dawn Odone Keeney also won Most Outstanding Female Competitor of the Competition.

Bando classes teach kickboxing fundamentals, self -defense techniques, weapon training and strength and conditioning drills. Classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 180 Oakwood Drive in Glastonbury. For more information, please call 657-8708.
